Our Arduino-Compatible, open source project for taking control over your car.
We are developing an Arduino-compatible microcontroller designed specifically for use in an automobile - more specifcally, an electric vehicle. This will be an ongoing project where we will work closely with the community to ensure that the appropriate features are implemented and done correctly.
In case you were wondering, the word "macchina " is the Italian word for "machine" or, as slang for "Automobile."
Macchina = Arduino Mega 2560 + OBD2 interface + automotive specifications + bigger power supply
The Macchina is based on the Arduino Mega 2560 and is compatible with all 5 OBD2 signaling protocols including PWM, VPW, ISO 9141-2, KWP and CAN. This should cover any car built from 1996 onward. It includes a sturdy power supply to power sub-circuits and add-ons (called "shields" in the Arduino world) and was designed with automotive standards in mind on a 4-layer PCB with better immunity from Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).
open source community
macchina developer program
Open source projects are pretty boring without contributions and collaborations. As people work together and share their work, improving designs by iterating and evolving along the way, amazing things start to happen. To encourage all of this, we've started the Macchina Developer Program.
What does this mean? In summary, we will offer a place to hold conversations (forums), a place to keep track of code (Git repository) and lastly, offer our hardware at a discount to those interested in working together. Interested?
